Noa Iimura: Keep earthquake victims in our hearts

To the editor:

Coming from Japan where I personally experienced the 2011 earthquake, I know the physical and mental damage a large-scale earthquake generates. I still vividly remember the convulsive quake that shook my school. One vivid memory I have is the massive amount of water that was shaken out of our school pool.

I admired the recent article, “China rushes relief after Sichuan quake kills 186,” since there are voices from the victims such as Fu Qiuyue, providing the reader with a feeling for the difficulties they face.

I am also glad that the article includes voices from the United Nations, since it shows that this disaster is urgent, which I believe will lead to more international aid for these devastated parts of China.

However, I am disappointed that the article did not mention ways for individuals to contribute to the aid of Sichuan, which is still nursing its wounds from the 2008 earthquake that killed an estimated 90,000 people.

Sichuan Quake Relief (SQR) is a nonprofit, humanitarian organization that accepts donations in order to buy hygiene packs for the victims. For more information, visit sichuan-quake-relief.org.
