Facing a starting pitcher coming off a perfect game, the Frontier Regional baseball team couldn’t have counted on much offense Monday afternoon.

But Peter Watroba and the Red Hawks defense made one run stand up in a 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten Greenfield in South Deerfield.

The senior scattered seven hits and a walk in the shutout. He struck out six in besting Mike Duclos, who retired every Pioneer Regional batter he faced last Wednesday.

A couple sparkling defensive plays helped Watroba through the sixth. With one down and a runner on first, right fielder Matt Ackerman cut off a shot hit down the line and over his head. His quick retrieval and throw back to the infield held the runners at second and third.

After Watroba got the second out on a strikeout, second baseman Rylan Baronas dove to his backhand side and threw out Jourdan York-Welcome by a step to preserve the lead.

Frontier (7-2) plated the game’s lone run in the second. Ryan Hoar led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and came in on a throwing error.

Hoar had two of three hits, while Niko Ames added the other.

Easthampton 10, Hopkins Academy 8 — The Eagles (4-3, 3-3 Hampshire) ran up a 10-0 advantage after three innings, then had to hang on late for the home victory.

Chris Starcun had three hits, including a two-run home run. He knocked in three runs and scored twice.

Erik Fickett and Austin Crow each had two-run hits, while Shy Torres (two runs) and Zach Lewis (run, RBI) added a hit apiece.

Ethan Wenner (3-for-4) hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and drove in six runs for the Golden Hawks (3-7, 2-5). Evan Delaney tripled and scored three times.

John Jacques (two innings) and Andrew Omer (one) tossed three shutout innings to set up Hopkins for the comeback attempt.

Gateway Regional 7, Hampshire Regional 5 — The Gators (4-5, 4-3 Bi-County) came back from a 5-0 deficit with seven runs in their final three innings at home.

Justin Edinger (run) went 3-for-4 and singled home the game-winning run in a three-run bottom of the sixth. Earlier in the inning, Nate Croke brought in Willis Pollard with the tying tally.

Calvin Dowers got the comeback started with a two-run single in the fourth to make it 5-2. Johnny Haskell cut it to one with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Geoff Sobotka pitched five innings of solid relief to earn the victory. He allowed an earned run on four hits with six strikeouts, and also supplied an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single.

Eddie Hagelstein went 3-for-3 in the loss for the Raiders (4-5, 3-4). Christian Macutkiewicz and Adam Laroche each had RBI doubles, Colton Delisle tripled and scored a run, while Cody Payson added a pair of hits and an RBI.

Granby 8, Franklin Tech 0 — Andy Gifford struck out eight, walked two and scattered three hits over seven innings as the Rams (8-3, 6-1 Tri-County) won on the road.

Brett Sullivan (three RBIs) and Travis Padgett (two runs) each had two hits, while Tim Sheehan added the fifth Granby (8-3, 6-1 Tri-County) hit.

The Rams took advantage of 10 walks.

Putnam 14, Smith Voke 2 — Jason Talbot (triple) and David York (double) each scored a run for the Vikings (0-8, 0-6 Tri-County South) in the loss in Springfield.

Brandon Wendolowski, Pete Morales and Jake Opalenik had a single apiece for Smith Voke.

Pathfinder 9, Smith Academy 5 — Keith Natale took the loss as the Falcons (10-3, 5-3 Tri-County North) fell to the Pioneers (5-6, 3-4 Tri-County).
