Philip C. Mathews: ‘Save Historic Cushman’ and learn more about the development
To the editor:
It is curious and regrettable that Cinda Jones was given the last word in “Neighbors join forces against housing proposal,” Gazette, April 12) about Save Historic Cushman, a citizens group that has rallied to oppose the proposed Landmark student housing development.
Jones closes with the condescending generalization, “Change can be scary.”
My neighbors and I are not scared; we are angry.
What Jones blandly refers to as “change” (170 student “cottages” housing 700 students, acres of pavement and hundreds of cars) is not so much “change” as “substitution” or “hostile takeover,” and will be the irrevocable destruction of an outlying rural area. More information about Save Historic Cushman is available online.
