Police issue notice of sex offender in city
NORTHAMPTON — Police have issued a notice about a Level 3 sex offender living in Florence.
Douglas Moulton Harvey, 64, of 17 North Maple St., Apt. 6, was convicted in 2006 of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and was sentenced to 3 to 5 years in prison. Harvey is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 280 pounds, with hazel eyes, gray hair and a goatee.
He is not wanted by police. Police are required by law to notify the community of all registered Level 3 sex offenders living or working in town.
Level 3 sex offender classification means the individual is determined by the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board to have a high risk of reoffending.
■ Edward Fermoso, 27, of 12 North East St., was arrested Friday at 12:22 a.m. on Kellogg Avenue on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and making a right turn on red where prohibited, police said.
■ Patrick Jean-Babets, 26, of 503 Montague Road, Shutesbury, was arrested Friday at 12:21 a.m. at a Belchertown Road home on a warrant.
■ Jacquelyn Lori Valdez, 21, of 275 East Pleasant St., was arrested Thursday at 9:23 p.m. at home on a warrant.
■ Branden E. Hutchinson, 22, of 52 College View Heights, South Hadley, was arrested Thursday at 9:10 p.m. on North Pleasant Street on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
■ Police are investigating a break-in at the Amherst Boys and Girls Club, 39 North Pleasant St., reported Thursday at 2:33 p.m. More than $250 worth of electronic items were stolen.
■ Emily Barcomb, 19, of 24 Phelps St., was arrested on a warrant at home Tuesday at 2:58 p.m.
■ Johnnie H. Mitchell, 58, of 1B Lexington Ave., was arrested Saturday at 10:06 p.m. on Riverside Drive on a charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Police said they found Mitchell’s car disabled in the middle of Riverside Drive with a flat tire and body damage. They found Mitchell walking a short distance away from the vehicle prior to his arrest.
■ Randi Lynne Craib, 26, of 309 Riverside Drive, was arrested Saturday at 5:23 p.m. at her home on a warrant, according to police.
■ Bruce A. Gibbs, 80, of 34 Fruit St., was arrested Friday at 11:20 a.m. at his home on a charge of assault and battery on a person 60 years or older/disabled with injury. Police say Gibbs allegedly struck his wife with his fist during a domestic dispute.
■ A Williamsburg man was treated and released from Cooley Dickinson Hospital after his car went off the road Thursday afternoon, possibly due to a medical issue, police said.
Thomas B. Percy, 46, of 108 Nash Hill Road, was driving south in the area of 19 Jackson St. at 2:33 p.m. when his vehicle drifted into the other lane, went off the road and traveled across the yards of three homes, hitting bushes, trees and a fence, police said. No citations were issued.
■ Francis B. Burroughs, 54, of Holyoke, was arrested on Pleasant Street Thursday at 10:09 p.m. on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
■ Theodore B. Grant, 61, of 136 High St., Apt. R151, was arrested Thursday at 6:10 p.m. outside Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken on King Street on charges of possessing a class A drug (heroin). Officers were questioning him about a report that he urinated on the side of the road when they observed five packets of white powder in his vehicle, police said.
■ James E. Freund, 59, whose address is listed as the streets of Northampton, was arrested Thursday at 3:05 p.m. on charges of vandalism after he allegedly cut the extension cords for the lights on the spruce tree in Pulaski Park.
