Erin Cahillane: Article on YouTube video arrest balanced
To the editor:
I would just like to say thank you to the Gazette for writing an objective article about the YouTube video of the arrest made by the Northampton Police Department (“City police under fire over arrest,” Gazette, April 3). It was truly refreshing to have an objective view of the event rather than the subjective comments about the situation that have been slandered all over the Internet.
I am truly disappointed with the many people who seem to agree with the attorney who captured the incident, an attorney who clearly was not in her right state of mind while taking said video. I know I would hesitate to agree with her opinion or even hire her after her completely unprofessional behavior of antagonizing officers during an already tense situation. It bears mentioning as well that she started taking the video after the event that resulted in police action had taken place.
How quickly people forget that the law enforcement personnel they deem racist and brutal are also the people who show up to help them when they have a problem. So, thank you for the objective article and also thank you to the Northampton Police Department for your continued service and dedication to our town. Some of us have not forgotten all the great work you do.
