Wednesday’s prep schools: Williston girls water polo defeats Choate for first time ever
The Williston Northampton girls water polo team made history Wednesday.
The Wildcats defeated Choate Rosemary Hall 6-4 for the first time in program history.
Maddy Stern of Northampton had three goals, while Ashley Fitch of Deerfield, Persis Ticknor-Swanson of Easthampton and Lindsay Richardson of Sunderland each had one goal.
Mary McCarthy made 15 saves in the win.
Williston (1-1) led 3-0 after the first quarter and 6-2 at halftime.
Taft 14, Williston 4 — Griffin Foley, Colin Brown, Conor Archbald (Williamsburg) and Aidan Rai each had one goal, while Jack Shumway of South Hadley had one assist but the Wildcats fell in Watertown, Conn.
Williston 7, Hotchkiss 5 — Karly Simpson of South Hadley had four goals, while Kirstyn Kruse scored twice and Taylor Potasky once as the Wildcats (1-0) won their opener in Lakeville, Conn.
Janelle Parker made six saves in the win.
Wilbraham & Monson 5, Williston 2 — Erik Ostberg had two hits and two RBIs but the Wildcats dropped their season opener at home.
Ethel Walker 15, Williston 8 — Laura Aptowitz (three hits), Sydney Belinskas (two hits), Delaney Belinskas (two hits), and Catie Laraway (two hits) each had an inside the park home run but the Wildcats (0-1) lost their opener in Simsbury, Conn.
Northfield Mount Hermon 5, Williston 4 — Jordan Capelle, Hana Whirty and Ray Stein each won their singles matches, and Yoonji Kim and Caroline Borden won their doubles match but the Wildcats fell at home.
