Westfield firm to build Deerfield DPW facility

A Westfield construction company will build the new Department of Public Works facility for $5.2 million.

The Public Works Facility Building Committee recommended the town sign a contract with Forish Construction Co.

The company’s cost to build the 15,500-square-foot building falls within the $5.9 million the town approved for the project last April.

The project total is $5.8 million, including contingencies.

Forish will implement a design created by HKT Architects of Somerville, which the town hired for $454,000 last August.

The design puts the main building at the town-owned Oxford property south of the existing facility. It would include a sand and salt shed, fuel depot, exterior covered storage and work site.

The town decided to replace the existing 3,500-square-foot facility because it has inadequate space and warmth for town employees working inside.

Forish had the lowest bid among seven other companies, which included Marois Construction Co. of South Hadley, Eastern General Construction of Springfield, WJ Mountford Co. of South Windsor, Conn., RAC Builders Inc. of Agawam, DA Sullivan & Sons Inc. of Northampton and Soulier & Zepka Construction Inc. of Adams.
