Michelle Otis: Kudos to EHS for prevention week
To the editor:
After reading the article in the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Tuesday, March 19, I was compelled to write and express my gratitude to the staff and administration of Easthampton High School. As a parent of an 11th grade student, who attends Easthampton High School, I was saddened and concerned when I learned of the recent arrest of Vice Principal Ann Beauregard. I wondered how Easthampton High School would deal with this situation, and how the administration and staff would talk with the students. I am most impressed on how this very precarious situation has been dealt with. Easthampton High School has taken this opportunity to turn a negative situation into a fantastic learning opportunity for our children.
I know first hand how focused school systems must remain on the business of “teaching” our children this could have been a missed opportunity to do just that. It is so refreshing and wonderful that Easthampton High School not only dealt with this situation appropriately, but used this as an opportunity to teach our children very important lessons they may not glean from a textbook.
