Whately eyes revisions to zoning bylaws
WHATELY — The Planning Board is doing some housecleaning on the town’s zoning bylaws.
A public hearing is scheduled for March 26 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall to discuss several proposed changes to the zoning map and bylaws.
According to Planning Board member Judy Markland, one proposed change would rezone a parcel on Christian Lane by the Yankee Candle Co. from commercial/industrial to agricultural/residential. Last year, a preservation restriction was put on the land. Two additional parcels at the corner of State Road and Swamp Road would be rezoned from agricultural/residential 1 to commercial. This would make all three properties consistent with their current status.
To expand the current commercial/industrial district by the Whately Industrial Park, three parcels on Long Plain Road would be rezoned from agricultural/residential 1 and 2 to commercial/industrial.
The zoning bylaws would also be revised to clarify the definition of Agricultural/Residential District 1 and to reduce the maximum height of any structure within a large-scale ground-mounted solar facility from the current 35 feet to 25 feet. The decrease in the maximum height was approved at last year’s Town Meeting, but never written into the zoning bylaws.
