Paul Garvey: Northampton should pursue proper tribute to Coolidge
To the editor:
The guest column by Richard Szlosek (“We’ve been silent too long on Cal,” Feb. 15) contains a great idea to which the city of Northampton should give serious consideration. Not many cities in the country have a former mayor who became president of the United States. Students of history in recent years have become more impressed by Calvin Coolidge’s presidency.
I am impressed that he may have been the only president to reduce the budget during his tenure.
A proper memorial to Coolidge will add to the status of the city as a destination, will improve employment opportunities for many and increase business and tax revenue for the city.
