Rules, permits for brush burning in Westhampton available online
Brush burning season began Jan. 15 and the town Fire Department is encouraging citizens who want to review the rules and obtain permits to log onto its website at www.westhamptonfire.org.
Once on the website, visitors can click on the link labeled “Brush Burning Permit” to fill out a burning permit application. Residents will receive an email confirmation about whether burning is allowed on the day they have requested.
Residents can also obtain permits by calling the Fire Department at 529-7181 between the hours of 7 and 8 a.m. on the day they wish to burn. Permits will not be issued to anyone calling after 8 a.m., said Fire Chief Christopher Norris.
Westhampton restricts outdoor brush burning to Saturdays and Sundays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. with a valid permit and approval from the Fire Department. Fire officials reserve the right to inspect any burning sites at any time and to revoke permits if terms and conditions or rules covering outdoor burning are not being followed, Norris said.
