Police take reports
of deer in roadways
GRANBY — Two more deer were struck by vehicles in Granby in recent days. Both motorists were uninjured, but one of the animals had to be euthanized by a police officer.
Several motorists have reported striking deer with their vehicles in Granby in recent weeks. No motorists were injured, but two animals, including a deer struck Jan. 10, had to be put down by Granby police.
The latest incident was at 7:22 p.m. Jan. 10 on Pleasant Street, when a driver hit a deer near East Street.
On Jan. 4, another driver told police he was driving to work when he hit a deer at 6:07 a.m. near the Granby Motel on West State Street. The deer ran into the woods, police said.

∎ Kyle Ian Josias, 18, of 108 Rolling Ridge road, was arrested Wednesday at 2:14 a.m. on East Pleasant Street on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Northampton
■ About 80 vehicles were towed throughout Thursday morning for allegedly violating the city’s declared snow emergency and parking ban, police said.
■ Eric J. Legare, 27, of Athol, was arrested about 11:47 a.m. Wednesday at the VA Central Western New England Healthcare System in Leeds on an Orange District Court warrant related to a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, police said.
∎ James Edward Garbiel, 50, whose address is listed as the streets of Northampton, was arrested about 6:06 p.m. Tuesday at Cooley Dickinson Hospital on a Greenfield District Court warrant related to a failure to appear in court, police said.
∎ Raymond Henry Pothier, 65, streets of Northampton, was arrested about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday at Cooley Dickinson Hospital on a charge of trespassing after allegedly refusing to leave.
Granby
∎ On Jan. 9, a Chicopee Street homeowner told police he discovered footprints around his home leading to a shed and back windows of his home. The residence was not entered, police said.
∎ Police are investigating an apparent housebreak on Aldrich Street reported Jan. 6. The homeowner told police she had been away for a few days and discovered the back window and door of her home showed signs of tampering. Nothing appeared to have been taken from the residence, police said.
∎ Ryan Nicholas Merceri, 24, of Palmer, was arrested Jan. 6 at 1:49 a.m. on East State Street and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
∎ Russell Sills, 53, of 141 Chicopee St., Granby, was arrested Jan. 5 at 4:29 p.m. on East State Street and charged with domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness.
South Hadley
∎ John Dent, 59, of 305 River Road, was arrested Jan. 12 on River Road at 10:04 p.m. on a charge of assault and battery.
∎ Sarah M. Craig, 21, of Chicopee, was arrested Jan. 10 on Main Street at 1:56 a.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
∎ Angel S. Lopez, 34, of Holyoke, was arrested at 6:22 a.m. Jan. 9 on Granby Road on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
∎ Carlos M. Rodriguez, 42, of Springfield, was arrested at 4:13 p.m. Jan. 9 on Vietnam Veterans Bridge and charged with operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.
∎ Leif E. Engebretson, 32, of 225 North St., was arrested Jan. 8 on Hadley Street at 4:02 a.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, assault and battery on a police officer, threatening to commit a crime (murder) and disturbing the peace.
∎ Joseph F. McKenna, 41, of Chicopee, was arrested Jan. 7 at 11:54 a.m. at Big Y on Willimansett Street and charged with shoplifting (second offense).
