Friday’s colleges: Amherst men’s hoop opens 2013 with win
Aaron Toomey had 23 points, seven assists and five rebounds as the Amherst College men’s basketball team opened 2013 with a 75-61 win over Wesleyan Friday in Middletown, Conn.
It was the first conference game for the Lord Jeffs (10-2, 1-0 NESCAC).
Allen Williamson (12 points), Connor Green (11) and Peter Kaasila (10) also reached double digits.
Willy Workman of Northampton had five points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks in the win.
Amherst College 41, Wesleyan 37 — Marcia Voigt had 15 points, and Megan Robertson had 12 points and 17 rebounds as the Lord Jeffs (11-0, 1-0 NESCAC) won the road.
Bowdoin 3, Amherst 2 — Johnny Van Siclen and Mike Moher (assist) each scored but the Jeffs (7-4-1, 4-3-0 NESCAC) fell at Orr Rink.
Brandon Hew had one assist, while Nathan Corey made 18 saves in the loss.
Amherst 10, Colby 1 — The Lord Jeffs (6-4-0, 4-1-0 NESCAC) pulled away with four goals in the second period en route to the road win.
Eight different players scored a goal in the win. Ashley Salerno and Geneva Lloyd (four assists) each had two, while Tori Salmon, Kaitlyn McInnis, Erin Martin, Madeline Tank, Megan Doyen and Anne Gillard each had one.
Kerri Stuart made 22 saves in the win.
