Gift to Hitchcock Center shows girl’s generosity
To the editor:
Finally a front page story that blows away all of the sensationalist negativity and overdone indulgence that is unfortunately associated with the current sad state of the business of news reporting today.
Nick Grabbe’s story on young Korinna Spirko is the story of the year. Her parents deserve to be proud of the wonderful job they have done in nurturing a generous and evolved young citizen who had the genius to use her own seventh birthday to combine goodwill with a concern for nature and a sense of community by requesting donations for the Hitchcock Center for the Environment in Amherst, instead of hoarding more toys and the other junk products put out by a decrepit and corrupt capitalist culture that is surely on its way out.
It really is news just to know of a young person living in the next town over who has demonstrated such awareness that belies her years. This story has managed to salvage yet another wreck of a year. Thanks, Mr. Grabbe!
