Forum in Amherst gives public chance to set agenda for zoning amendments
AMHERST — Priorities for zoning amendments for next spring’s annual Town Meeting will be discussed at a community forum Wednesday.
The Zoning Subcommittee and members of the Planning Department will take suggestions from residents at the session, which will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Town Room at Town Hall.
Zoning forums, held twice annually, are an opportunity for residents to weigh in on the Zoning Subcommittee’s work list or to make zoning requests.
A Safe and Healthy Neighbors Working Group is working on zoning and general bylaws including establishing a rental permitting and inspection system and amending the town bylaw that bars landlords from renting to more than four unrelated housemates.
The other potential amendments on the work list, based on staff recommendations, include rezoning for the Atkins Corner village center to promote so-called in-fill development, which has twice failed at Town Meeting, extending the demolition delay bylaw for historic buildings from one year to 18 months and adding agricultural processing to the light manufacturing use category.
