UMass hockey team falls behind early, loses 6-4 to Colgate
The University of Massachusetts hockey team fell behind early and couldn’t catch Colgate in a 6-4 loss Friday at the Mullins Center.
Colgate led 4-1 after the second period, but Joel Hanley and Adam Phillips (three assists) scored power-play goals early in the third as UMass trimmed the deficit to 4-3.
Jeremy Price pushed the lead to two, but Conor Allen pulled the Minutemen (5-7-2) back within 5-4 with a goal at 12:41 of the third.
The Raiders (8-7-2) sealed the win with a goal a 15:17.
Kevin Boyle made 19 saves in the loss.
Spencer Finney stopped 31 in the win.
The teams play again Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center.
Williams 2, Amherst 1 — Johnny Van Siclen’s power-play goal tied the game but the Lord Jeffs (4-3-1, 3-2 NESCAC) fell on the road.
Nathan Corey made 16 saves in the loss.
Women’s basketball
MIT 65, Mount Holyoke 52 — Amber Legare had 14 points and Angelica Pascual added 11 but the Lyons (1-6, 0-4 NEWMAC) fell at home.
Allison Slysz of Hatfield had four points in the loss.
