Weekend Planner: Kids
Raised as a pampered princess in a privileged British household in colonial India, 11-year-old Sara is unprepared for enrollment in an exclusive London girls’ finishing school. When her beloved father dies impoverished as a result of bad investments, she becomes a servant to the imperious headmistress, Miss Minchin, and is banished to a bare attic bedroom. With imagination and pluck, however, Sara manages to rise above her situation and endure as a caring, loving person ... a true princess.
Such is the plot of “ A Little Princess ,” the classic 1905 children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which will be brought to life this weekend by Springfield’s Drama Studio. Performances at CityStage in Springfield are Friday at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 4 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 3 and 6:30 p.m. $14-$22. 788-7033.
