Suzanne Wilson’s Best Bets

I wrote for Nancy Frazier of Leverett in the 1980s when she was Hampshire Life’s first editor. She brought great curiosity, a reverence for research and a love of detail to every story she touched. She went on to become an art historian and author, and — as the title of her new book suggests — she continues to find new subjects to explore. “I, Lobster: A Crustacean Odyssey” (University of New Hampshire Press) considers the lobster’s life and its place in history, science, myth, movies, literature — and as dinner. Recipes included.

Sometimes there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good book about crime — even in the midst of the holiday season. The ongoing Odyssey Crime Club meets Monday at 7 p.m. at the Odyssey Bookshop in the South Hadley Village Commons. Up for discussion will be “Sharp Objects” by Gillian Flynn, author of this year’s big best-seller, “Gone Girl.”
