Lots of towns have holiday kickoff events but nobody does it up as fervently as Shelburne Falls. Running 4-10 p.m. tomorrow, the village’s annual Moonlight Magic gala begins with the lighting of some 1,200 candles along both sides of the streets throughout the town. At 5:15 the Parade of Lights crosses the Iron Bridge that spans the Deerfield River from Buckland to Shelburne, bringing Santa, the Grinch, the Snow Princess and many more into the village. Numerous vocal and instrumental groups will be performing at designated sites, including Uncle Hal’s Crabgrass Band, Last Night’s Fun Celtic Band and the Expandable Brass Band. At Memorial Hall Theater, children and their families can watch cartoons on the big screen from 5:30-8 p.m. The brightly lit and beautifully restored Shelburne Falls trolley will also be in operation as stores, galleries and restaurants remain open late for holiday promotions. Look for a rich assortment of baked goods, crafts, food and hot drinks from vendors.
Recently designated a Cultural District by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Shelburne Falls has also been named “one of the prettiest small towns in New England.”
