Robert Bernstein of Florence cited after allegedly striking 15-year-old pedestrian with car
NORTHAMPTON — An 81-year-old Florence man was cited after allegedly striking a 15-year-old pedestrian, sending him to the hospital Thursday evening.
Robert Bernstein of 62 Lilly St. was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk after allegedly striking Everett M. Cuffee of 491 Bridge Road, Florence.
According to police, Bernstein was driving west on Locust Street toward the intersection with Straw Avenue when he struck Cuffee at 7:05 p.m.
Bernstein reportedly hit Cuffee while he was walking in a posted crosswalk at the intersection, sending Cuffee onto the hood of the car, smashing part of the lower right side of the windshield.
Cuffee was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital for evaluation, according to police. He was treated for injuries and released.
Bernstein allegedly told police that did not see Cuffee walking across the street and, based on that statement and Bernstein’s age, police said they filed paperwork with the Registry of Motor Vehicles to have his driving status reviewed as an immediate threat.
Police said the street, intersection and crosswalk were all clearly lit that evening.
