Springfield driver pleads not guilty to dragging, striking police officer

Siloe Perez pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges including leaving the scene of an accident, operating under the influence, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The 24-year-old Perez allegedly hit another vehicle late Monday morning, and that driver told Officer David Starr, working a detail nearby.

When Starr attempted to reach into Perez’s vehicle, the defendant allegedly threw the truck into reverse, dragging Starr, before putting the vehicle into drive, striking Starr.

Starr was treated at a hospital for a knee injury, but has been released.

Police tell WGGB-TV that Perez’s blood-alcohol level more three times the legal limit to drive.
