GOP needs to wake up, purge leadership
To the editor:
Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, was a wonderful day, albeit I didn’t go to sleep until well after 1 a.m. Thanks to all the gods that may be, our nation emerged in safe (and sane) hands for four more years.
I felt a twinge of sadness for our former governor, but not for the tea party and radical right-wingers who now control the GOP and have led it by the nose into total irrelevance.
And what a sinful shame that the once proud Grand Old Party, the party that produced such giants as Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, should now be overrun by people like Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter, Paul “Ayn Rand” Ryan, Karl Rove and defeated Senator Scott Brown.
If (and when) the Republican Party wakes up and dumps a fossilized congressional leadership (John Boehner and Mitch McConnell), then, and only then, will the GOP, purged of all its circus side-show crazies, join the rest of us and restore America to the esteem and glory we once knew.
That is the dream I dream. That, and a woman in the White House in 2016.
