Northampton police station garage construction continues, traffic slowdowns expected starting Friday
NORTHAMPTON — Traffic on Gothic street will be reduced to one lane Friday as construction on the parking structure next to the city’s new police station continues.
According to Northampton Police Chief Russell P. Sienkiewicz, the next phase of construction will affect traffic starting Friday and running through Nov. 9, except for Saturday, Nov. 3, due to the farmers market, and the following day.
Delays on Gothic Street should be expected as work progresses, Sienkiewicz said.
Sienkiewicz said the construction of the $4.5 million parking structure is on track to be completed around the third week of November.
There will be 55 spaces in the finished structure; 42 for court employees, 10 for the Hampshire Council of Governments, three handicapped parking spaces, and charging stations for electric vehicles, he said. The garage will be open to the public at night.
