Statewide college scholarship art contest deadline extended due to Sandy

The deadline for a statewide college scholarship art competiton has been extended to Monday because of the disruption caused by Hurricane Sandy.

The 9th annual contest, sponsored by the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority, is open to children in grades K through 5 who are residents of the state and attend public, private, charter or home-based schools. The original deadline of Oct. 31 has been extended.

Art entries must illustrate answers to the question, “what do I want to be when I graduate from college?” Nine finalists will be selected to receive three first-place prizes of $5,000 college investment plan accounts; three second-place prizes of $2,000 accounts; and three third-place prizes of $1,000 accounts. Winners will be announced on or about March 31.

Since it was founded eight years ago, MEFA’s art competition has received more than 17,000 entries and awarded $192,000 worth of college savings accounts managed by Fidelity Investments.

For information or a copy of competition rules and entry forms, visit MEFA’s website at www.mefa.org/contest or call 1-800-449-MEFA.
