LEVERETT — Linda Wentworth, who has been director at Leverett’s public library since 2003, began work Monday as head of collections at the Jones Library.

She had previously served as both circulation assistant and reference librarian at Jones.

In a statement posted on the Leverett library’s website, Wentworth thanked staff, volunteers and trustees. “It has been a great privilege to serve the community of Leverett. I am grateful to so many folks for their friendship and support,” she said.

Wentworth’s new job will be focusing mainly on curating the large audio-visual collection at Jones and as a member of the reference staff. “This has always been my favorite part of the job: figuring out what somebody wants and finding just the right resource for them to use,” said Wentworth.

She will be paid $44,645.

At Leverett, Wentworth often was involved in seeking public events and cultural opportunities for the library, such as the weekly “Music on the Patio,” small concerts featuring local artists held outdoors this past summer, and a recurring speaker series from local publishing authors.

“This really is a lovely place to have this kind of venue,” she said, “and there’s a lot of support for it from local residents. “It’s really an ideal situation for a library of this size.”

Leverett Library trustees are seeking a new director for a full- to part-time position with variable seasonal hours. Applications can be found on the library’s website. Final recommendations will be tendered to the Leverett Select Board, which will make an official selection later this fall.

Wentworth received a fond farewell from many in town who had been closely involved in the growth of the library over the past decade. “Linda came to us six weeks after we had finished construction on the present location, in May of 2003, and she’s really made it what it is today,” said D’Ann Kelty, a longtime volunteer. “She really worked hard to bring people in and provide activities for everyone.”

Though Wentworth said she was looking forward to her new post in Amherst she will miss working in Leverett. “It really is a very special town.”
