Pedestrian killed in accident on School Street in Granby
GRANBY — A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a motor vehicle near 24 School St. Sunday afternoon.
Granby police withheld the victim’s name and gender until the family could be notified.
Police identified the motorist who struck the pedestrian as Tessa V. Desjardins, 20, of 1120 Federal St., Belchertown. Police late Sunday said it was too soon to say whether charges would be filed against her.
Police received a 911 call via cellphone at 3:36 p.m. reporting that the pedestrian had been struck. Granby police, fire and ambulance personnel responded and emergency medical treatment was given to the victim.
The pedestrian was walking north on the shoulder of the southbound lane of School Street, and Desjardins was driving south when the accident occurred, according to a statement issued by Granby Sgt. Mark L. Smith.
School Street was closed for five hours while the accident was investigated by Granby police and the Massachusetts State Police accident reconstruction unit.
