Friday's high schools: South Hadley ties Hampshire Regional, qualifies for boys soccer postseason
Chris Larrow scored with 25 seconds left off a long throw-in by Ryan Dickinson to give the South Hadley boys soccer team a 2-2 tie with Hampshire Regional in South Hadley Friday.
The Tigers (7-3-3, 3-1-3 Holley) qualified for the postseason with the point.
Dickinson score the first goal for South Hadley.
Eric Maryea made four saves.
Bryan Brasil and Brendan Bzdel scored the goals for the Raiders (3-3-3, 1-3-2), while Josh Fasoli and Noah Sandvik were credited with assist.
Ben Preston had one save.
Northampton 2, Lenox 0 — Jonah Hahn score twice and Jordan Maurer had two assists as the Blue Devils (3-6-3) won the independent game at home.
Jack Haller made three saves and Andrew Fleming played well off the bench for Hamp.
Smith Academy 2, Pioneer Regional 0 — Nat Hanson scored twice and Cam Woodward made two saves as the Falcons won in Northfield.
Smith (10-1-1, 4-1-0 McGrath South) led 1-0 at halftime.
Holyoke Catholic 5, Hampden Charter 0 — Trevor Lewicki (assist) had three goals and John O’Hara and Joey McCoy each had one as the Gaels (6-4-3) won on the road.
Preston Wolffe and Brenden Lavallee each had one assist and Tom Heavren made four saves in the shutout.
Frontier Regional 2, Easthampton 0 — Jared Allis and Manny Munir (assist) each scored as the Red Hawks (1-11-1, 1-6-0 Schmid) won their first game of the season in Whately.
Jamie Blinder had one assist, while Shawn Mazur-Garcia stopped one shot for the shutout.
The Eagles (1-9-1) fell to 1-6-0 in the league.
Putnam 6, Smith Vocational 0 — Josh Harriman and Will Ingram combined for 12 saves for the Vikings (0-10-1, 0-7 Tri-County North) in the loss at home.
Minnechaug 0, Amherst Regional 0 — Rebecca Carkhuff made a game-saving save in the closing seconds as the Hurricanes (4-6-3) earned the point at home.
With seconds left, a Minnechaug player used a flip throw from the sideline to toss the ball into the box. After a scramble, the ball came out to the 18 where a Falcon laced a shot to the lower corner. Carkhuff (six saves) made the diving stop seconds before time expired.
Emma Biggs had a chance with five minutes left but her shot into the box was cleared by the Minnechaug defense.
Hopkins Academy 5, Pioneer Regional 0 — Five different Golden Hawks (5-6-2) scored in the win at home.
Kayla Jacque, Lacey Waskiewicz, Mary Cook, Mikaela Momot and Kyra Michalak all had goals in the victory.
Ally Jenks, Katie Keegan, Cook and Waskiewicz were credited with assists.
Amanda Olson didn’t make a save in the shutout.
Frontier Regional 4, Cathedral 0 — Sydney Judge had a goal and two assists as the Red Hawks (8-2-1) cruised in Springfield.
Rose Moscaritolo (one assist), Jordan Rowe and Taryn Marquis each added one goal.
Gwen Thayer made one save for the shutout for Frontier, which is one point shy of qualifying for the postseason.
Williston 2, Loomis Chaffee 1 — William Flynn and Aaron James of Amherst each scored as the Wildcats (4-2-2) won at home.
Conor Archbald had one assist and Bailey Gawron made three saves in the win.
