Hadley Select Board OKs special Town Meeting warrant
HADLEY — The Select Board has approved a warrant for the Oct. 25 special Town Meeting when voters will be asked to sign off on a series of budget adjustments and the purchase of three new town vehicles.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hopkins Academy.
Voters will consider spending $75,000 for a new school wheelchair van, $55,000 for a new tractor for the Department of Public Works and $60,000 for a new Ford 350 vehicle for the DPW’s Water Division.
Budget adjustments are needed because the town used a new format this year which produced confusion and led to some funds being placed in the wrong account, said Town Administrator David Nixon.
All overtime pay, for instance, was allocated in the town’s snow and ice account, resulting in no money to pay overtime in other areas, he said. And money for health inspections was placed in the wrong account while money for uniforms was included in an account for salaries.
“That was an oversight on our part,” Nixon said.
The budget also has to be fixed to reflect cost-of-living adjustments.
Nixon said that an overall total amount of the adjustments needed has not yet been calculated.
“Right now it is a matter of things being in flux, but it is a balanced budget,” Nixon said.
