Green tip for October from PVPC
Did You Know? Compact growth can be as much as 70 percent cheaper for governments than equivalent volumes of scattered growth. It simply costs less to provide infrastructure (streets, schools, flood control, sewers) and services (police, fire protection) to denser, more contiguous households than to lower-density communities.
Green Tip: Vote for City Council or Select Board members who will advocate for “smart growth” measures that will result in more compact growth. Join a community board or committee to advocate for new smart growth policies. Finally, vote with your feet and your dollars! Support businesses within walking or biking distance of your home and place of work, as well as businesses in downtown or village center areas. If you are thinking about moving, consider home locations near your place of work or near a downtown or village center.
