∎ A former Northampton man, Philip J. Kuzemeski, has received a promotion to captain at Plattsburgh, N.Y. Air Force Base. Capt. Kuzesmeski, who has been stationed at the base since August 1959, is a pilot in the air refueling wing. He is a graduate of Northampton High School.
∎ Jacqueline Gagnon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sam Gagnon of 74 Ryan Rd., Florence, and an accomplished equestrian, will give a demonstration of English equation at the Hampshire County Club Horse Show at the Smith College riding ring Sunday. She will ride her registered American saddle horse, Cockade.

∎ Local opposition has prompted the owner of Young Meadow Farm in Hadley to reduce the size of a proposed housing development in an effort to show “good faith” to residents. The proposed subdivision will have at least 60 less units than was originally planned, according to Thomas Lesser, a Northampton lawyer representing owner William W. Young of Longmeadow.
∎ Everyone was upbeat yesterday when city and county officials and Hotel Northampton brass met to discuss a proposal to expand the courthouse into offices at the hotel’s planned conference center. The plan would relieve crowding in the Hampshire County Courthouse.

∎ After months of construction, the remodeling and expansion at Sylvester’s Restaurant will be completed by next week, giving customers and staff more elbow room and more space for takeout business.
∎ Any child who’s ever wanted to know what it’s like to get behind the wheel of a dump truck, an ambulance or a wrecker will get a chance Saturday when the Northampton Police Department presents Big Rig Day IV. Officer Michelle Moriarty, who is organizing the event for the fourth time, said she was inspired to start it by her own son.
