Curtis Smith: A patriot suggests that colors are sometimes only that
To the editor:
I am wondering about the spate of letters decrying the use of red, white and blue colors as being disrespectful to our flag. Does patriotism prohibit the use of these colors in any way except on our flag? I am a veteran of three years in the Army in World War II, so, of course, my own patriotism is unquestionable.
I have a white house with blue shutters. Does the presence of red geraniums in my window box brand me as disrespectful to the flag? I wonder what these superpatriots are trying to prove.
