Area police news
∎ A resident of Chestnut Court Apartments, 9 Chestnut Court, reported a break-in at 7:18 p.m. Thursday in which $60 in cash and costume jewelry with no value was stolen. Police investigating the incident found no evidence of forced entry.
∎ Joseph F. Carpenito, 59, of East Boston, was arrested at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday at Fayerweather Hall on four warrants.
∎ Cesar Vargas, 19, of Springfield, was arrested at 7:52 a.m. Friday on Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license and on two warrants. Police said Vargas was stopped at Pleasant and Holyoke streets for having no inspection sticker on his vehicle.
∎ Kyle Patruno, 22, of Sturbridge, was arrested at 1:36 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Street and Hockanum Road on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for a motor vehicle lights violation. Police said they stopped Patruno for driving without his headlights on and when he pulled over, his car struck a curb.
∎ Police plan to summon a 30-year-old Easthampton man to court for shoplifting energy drinks worth $104 from Stop & Shop Supermarket on King Street at 2:43 p.m. Thursday. Police said the man was caught trying to push a cart filled with the merchandise out of the store.
