Ralean Bridgman, Smith Vocational graduate

TUCSON, Ariz. - Ralean Bridgman, 88, passed away in Tucson, Ariz., on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012.

Born Dec. 16, 1923, in West Chesterfield, she was the daughter of the late Elmer L. and Alta (Cressy) Todd.

Haydenville woman tapped for probate court judgeship

NORTHAMPTON - Gov. Deval Patrick has nominated Beth A. Crawford of Haydenville for a judgeship at Hampshire Probate and Family Court.

Crawford is slated to fill the position left vacant by the retirement last May of Gail L. Perlman.

Nominees for probate judgeships in Bristol and Norfolk counties, Richard J. McMahon and Jennifer Marie Rivera Ulwick, were also announced Tuesday.

NORTHFIELD - Hampshire Regional senior Ben Galica added another win to his already impressive season Saturday, as he earned his first championship at the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Wrestling Tournament at Pioneer Valley.

Walter Howard Morrey Sr., sawyer

NORTHAMPTON - Walter Howard "Howie" Morrey Sr., 91, passed away Feb. 1, 2012, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Walter was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Northampton.

Walter was a sawyer and worked for various local sawmills. He was also employed at and retired from the University of Massachusetts.

WILLIAMSBURG - "So that's what that was!" exclaimed Christine Allen of South Street when she heard the cause of what she described as a "sonic boom."

"It was like a big BLAM," she said. "The whole house shook and the windows rattled. I have never felt an earthquake before, but now, I guess I can say I have."
