AMHERST - An amendment designed to relieve some pressure on regional school districts struggling beneath the weight of cuts to state transportation aid passed the state Senate Tuesday night, although questions remained over how those districts would make up for this fiscal year's $18 million cut in transportation funding.

AMHERST - Senior running back Walker Nambu came up with the idea for the 45-yard reception that set up the fourth touchdown for the Amherst Regional football team Friday night.

Nambu, who had been running all over Ludlow for much of the contest, had a hunch that he could find success as a wide receiver.

WEST SPRINGFIELD - It was the West Springfield girls volleyball team that won the Western Massachusetts Division 2 semifinal Thursday night, but Amherst Regional made the Terriers work for it.

The Hurricanes overcame a nine-point deficit in the fourth set to force a fifth, and stayed even with West Springfield for much of the contest.
