Northampton needs to buy the Bean Farm, and it needs to remain a farm. Digging, weeding and harvesting alongside your neighbor builds community and sustains the local economy. Local food is an economic force worthy of our attention.

Bicyclist gives kudos to local bike shop owner

I enjoyed your article on bike shop owner Jason Graves in Hampshire Life ("Jason Graves and his band of BMXers," Nov. 6). Jason does a great job with BMX bikes and even a better job caring about the kids who ride them. His shop often feels like a teen center. As a teacher I have been impressed with how he reaches out to kids and makes them feel welcome.

On Nov. 11, a day put aside to honor the sacrifices of our veterans, it has become apparent that this is not a day to honor all veterans - at least by the actions of our son's own town government and the veterans organizations of the town in which he lived and died.
