Coliform bacteria detected in water samples

WILLIAMSBURG - A routine monthly test of the town's water between Oct. 13 and 15 detected total coliform bacteria in three of 13 samples. Brenda Lessard, of the town's Water and Sewer Commission, said that the abnormal samples do not mean an emergency situation.

Around area, veterans receive due respect: Ceremonies honor 'ordinary people' for service, sacrifice

Residents in Easthampton, Amherst and Williamsburg recognized and remembered veterans Wednesday through gun salutes, patriotic performances and stories about ordinary people who have accomplished the extraordinary on behalf of our nation. Dressed in clothing that ranged from military uniforms to sweatshirts and jeans, people took off their hats and placed their hands over their hearts as trumpet soloists played taps, uniformed retired vets laid wreaths, and speakers saluted those who have served.

NORTHAMPTON - The city is observing Veterans Day today with a parade downtown. Marchers leave Lampron Park on Bridge Street at 11 a.m. A ceremony follows outside Memorial Hall on Main Street. Speakers from Northampton and other area communities will be on hand.

Veterans Day parade kicks off at 11 a.m. Wednesday

NORTHAMPTON - The city will observe Veterans Day with a parade through downtown Wednesday morning. Marchers will leave Lampron Park on Bridge Street at 11 a.m.

A ceremony will follow outside Memorial Hall on Main Street. Speakers include Steven Como, community relations director at Soldier On, and Steve Connor, veterans services agent for Northampton and other area communities.

Around Williamsburg: School, Old Town Hall considered for solar panels

The Board of Selectmen is considering using earmarked town money to install solar panels on either the Anne T. Dunphy School or the Old Town Hall. Town Administrator Steven Herzberg said that he sent out a request for proposals that will be opened and reviewed on Tuesday.
