NORTHFIELD - Hampshire Regional senior Ben Galica added another win to his already impressive season Saturday, as he earned his first championship at the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Wrestling Tournament at Pioneer Valley.

Amherst Regional's Nate Kane earned second place in the 138-pound weight class at the Western Massachusetts Division 1 individual wrestling tournament Saturday in Westfield.
Kane lost to Central's Jonathan Viruet 12-0 in the title bout.

The first postseason event of the winter season kicks off Friday when the Western Massachusetts Division 3 individual wrestling tournament begins at Pioneer Regional in Northfield. The two-day event begins with the first two rounds and continues Saturday. The championship round is expected to start around 6 p.m. Saturday. The Division 1 tournament, meanwhile, takes place all day Saturday with title bouts expected to start around 6:30 p.m. In the Division 3 field, Granby junior James Cupak is fresh off a first-place finish at the Mountie Invitational in Williamstown and will be one of the top seeds at 182 pounds.

In a year the Frontier Regional wrestling team earned coach Don Gordon his 300th career victory, the Red Hawks had another reason to celebrate after their 48-24 victory over Athol at home Wednesday.
With the win, Frontier finished the regular season 10-9 overall (3-3 Tri-County) to earn its first winning season since the 2001-02 season.

Hampshire Regional junior Frankie Weir earned his 100th career victory en route to a second place finish Saturday at the Mountie Invitational in Williamstown.
Weir entered the event as the top seed at 152 pounds and cruised to the finals with two pins and a 7-3 victory over Kevin Mulligan of North Providence.

The best girls high school tennis player in the state will join the top college program in the country next fall.
Amherst Regional star Maya Hart committed via early decision in December to play at Williams College, the four-time reigning Division III national champion.
