Division 3 wrestling: Ben Galica of Hampshire Regional wins sectional title

NORTHFIELD - Hampshire Regional senior Ben Galica added another win to his already impressive season Saturday, as he earned his first championship at the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Wrestling Tournament at Pioneer Valley.

WESTHAMPTON - Frankie Weir has already wrestled his way into the 100-win club at Hampshire Regional. With a strong postseason, teammate Nate Ghareeb can do the same.

Hampshire Regional wrestlers still undefeated

The Hampshire Regional wrestling team remained undefeated with a 42-34 victory over Franklin Tech Wednesday in Turners.

The Raiders (5-0, 2-0 Tri-County) had six wrestlers earn pins: Nick Hoskin (106 pounds), Anthony Hoskin (160), Nathan Ghareeb (170), Peter Larsen (189), Calvin lachowicz (195) and Ben Galica (220).

Defensive effort spurs victory by South Hadley girls basketball over Hampshire

SOUTH HADLEY - After losing by 17 points at Mahar on Friday, the South Hadley girls basketball team spent the weekend stewing over the loss and vowing to play better in its second game of the season. The Tigers did just that Monday with a strong defensive effort and transition game in a 53-40 victory over Hampshire Regional at home. South Hadley forced 28 turnovers and turned many of them into fast break baskets en route to its first win over the Raiders (0-1) since a 51-47 victory in Westhampton on Dec. 17, 2007.
