A recent computer problem came in the form of a phone call: "Paris, I hope you can help me. My name is Phil. I read your column all the time. My wife and I bought a new computer. I've unpacked it, set it all up, but I can't get it to turn on."

I lost a word. I looked in all the usual places, but no luck. I used to know it. It was a good word, too. As I remember, it was a word for an amateur naturalist who records the timing of plant and animal events that are related to the change in seasons. An example helps: someone who writes down every year the date and time that the first crocus appears in her garden.

"Half empty." That's my answer. At least it is this week. I know that over the long haul synchronicity works for us about as often as it works against us, but this week I'm definitely not in the cosmic flow of things.

If you've been hearing the term "cloud computing" and haven't been quite sure what that's all about, that puts you on a par with many.
It's a term that's come to us from the description of the Internet as a cloud - not the best of analogies, but one that's been used for some time now.
