50 YEARS AGO
· Peter F. Betts, grandson of Mrs. Azilda Vanasse of 45 North St., won the national "gold dance" championship in the national figure skating competition held at Boston College on Sunday. Mr. Betts will enter the world competition for figure skating championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia, on March 14.

· Dennis Aubrey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Aubrey of 59 West St., a member of Boy Scout Troop 111 of St. Mary's parish, will receive the Eagle award, the highest honor in Scouting, at the troop's annual communion breakfast Sunday in St. Michael's School cafeteria.

· A Smith College faculty team, headed by President Thomas C. Mendenhall, smashed through to victory last night in a "College Quiz Bowl" held by the Hampshire County Smith Club. The Alumnae panel trailed the faculty's score of 85 with a score of 55. The students totaled up 0 points.

Sarah Feldman of New York, N.Y., and Jeffrey Rothenberg of Hadley announce their engagement. Feldman is the daughter of Katherine Vorwerk and Robert Feldman of Amherst. Rothenberg is the son of Barbara Skolnick Rothenberg and David Rothenberg of Amherst.
