Side Street Cafe closes in Florence

NORTHAMPTON — Prospective diners at Side Street Cafe in Florence were greeted with the news Friday that the restaurant has closed.

A sign on the restaurant’s door dated Oct. 31 reads, “Side Street Cafe is now closed for business. We thank all of our patrons for your continued support. Best wishes.”

Attempts to reach the cafe via telephone were unsuccessful Friday. A message left for chef and owner Patrick Shannon was not immediately returned.

There was no information about the closing on the cafe’s website and the last posting on its Facebook page is dated Aug. 5, 2013.

Side Street Cafe opened in April 2006.

I'm saddened to read about the closing of the Side Street Cafe. Great food and friendly people. I also have two or three SSC gift certificates that I got through the Gazette's Pioneer Valley Online store. I suppose there's no hope of getting any money or credit back on these.

How about another pizza shop?

This really stinks! I stopped and saw the signs in the windows. I have a Side Street gift certificate that I wanted to use. It's not fair.

One less destination point in Florence. We need more businesses like SideStreet in 01062. How about something good in the former gas station on the corner? Coffee shop with live entertainment? Ice cream? Baked goods? Bart's?
