Weekly farmers market in Amherst starts Wednesday

The Wednesday Market at Kendrick Park returns for a third season this afternoon.

The market, which will run from 2 to 6 p.m., will feature 11 vendors during the initial week, with more expected to join as the spring and summer progress.

Among those who will be on hand, said market manager Grace Johnston, are Backyard Bakery of Amherst, with handmade sourdough bread from local grains, Chanterelle ToGo of Shutesbury, serving sandwiches and salads, Copperhead Farm of Hadley with goat meat, poultry and maple syrup and King Creek/Queen’s Greens of Amherst, with grass-fed beef and pasture-raised pork.

The Kitchen Garden Farm in Hadley and Sunderland will have vegetables and eggs, Red Fire Farm of Granby and Montague will be selling vegetables, eggs and berries and Western Woods Coffee of Leverett will serve iced coffee, hot tea and Katalyst Kombucha.

In future weeks, DiLaura Soap Co. will be set up, and later in the summer Apex Orchards and Woodcock Farm will have apples and locally spun fibers.

In addition to the products, there will also be performances by the Ephemeral String Band and June & the Bee, a bicycle workshop by Co-cycle, an information table from the Amherst Community Market and chair massages offered by The Flexible Farmer.
