Adventure Outfitters sale to be its last; Hadley store to close
HADLEY — A longtime outdoor gear retailer in Hadley will close, in part because of a weak economy.
Adventure Outfitters at 451 Russell St. (Route 9), founded 32 years ago by Michael Zabre, is holding a final sale of merchandise.
The company has hired the Tiger Group to handle a closing of the Hadley store.
John Cronin, director of planning and analysis for Tiger Group, said in a statement that Adventure Outfitters is closing “as a result of the tough economy and two warm winters in a row.”
Along with the store’s regular stock of outdoor equipment, now marked down by up to 40 percent, the outlet’s fixtures, furniture and equipment will be sold.
The 10,000-square-foot store has carried supplies for most outdoor sports, including climbing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, canoeing and kayaking.
For more information on the sale, people can call 866-437-6707.
