New fitness center for women opens in Amherst
AMHERST — A fitness center focused on giving support to women in an individual and group setting has opened on University Drive.
Megan Earle of Hadley recently launched FitWomen at 6 University Drive in the Newmarket Center.
Earle said the business aims to provide a balanced approach to fitness in a comfortable environment.
She has worked for nearly a decade in health club sales and management in western Massachusetts, and also spent time in the Boston area doing online marketing, she said.
“Our goal is to serve as positive role models who will encourage, motivate and provide guidance to our members at every turn in the path to cultivating a healthier, happier lifestyle” Earle said.
Cardio equipment at FitWomen includes treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes and strength equipment. The space has a free-weight and functional training area, along with changing rooms and showers.
Members have access to personal trainers and group fitness classes including yoga, Pilates, Zumba, muscle conditioning and boot-camp sessions.
A 12-week weight-loss program, “Body Transformation,” offers three group training sessions each week, plus nutritional guidance and accountability and motivation input from a personal trainer.
The fitness center is in the same complex where Leading Edge was located. That fitness center, owned by Earle’s husband, Peter, closed in 2010.
FitWomen is open daily.
