Credit union donates to four nonprofits

The credit union from April to June gave new customers coins worth $5 to $10 and asked them to donate the money toward the nonprofits.

The program is being extended to the main office in Chicopee and the Chicopee Big Y until the end of August.

Nonprofits in the Chicopee locations are the Chicopee Boys and Girls Club, Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen, Dakin and Solider On.

The program will also be extended to the South Hadley Big Y once it opens in August.

Optometrist marks anniversary

When the Optical Studio opened in 1993, it was located on South street, eventually relocating to 274 Pleasant St.

Engineers earn professional licenses

Christina Jones of South Deerfield began her career at Tighe & Bond in 2009 after receiving her master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has worked water system design projects for the town of Amherst and in Connecticut.

She is a member of Engineers Without Borders and is on the New England Water Works Association’s program committee and the New England Water Environment Association’s student activities committee.

Elizabette Botelho has been employed at Tighe & Bond since 2006. She has participated in a number of civil site design projects that include the Center for the Arts at Deerfield Academy, the new residence hall at Westfield State University, and a parking lot at Holyoke Community College. She has participated in design and construction administration for state Department of Energy Resources Energy Management Services projects in Greenfield and Westfield.

Women’s networking event planned

The event is primarily for networking and for discussing the unique challenges presented for women working in business but with a special focus on the female entrepreneur.

A collaboration of several women-owned and -operated businesses are helping to put on this event, including Marci Webber of Naomi’s Inn, photographer Jacki Jacobs, Elizabeth Reisine of Elizabeth Reisine Specialized Catering, Amber Matos of Tiaras and Tulle Makeup Artistry, photographer Jenn Burdick and guest speaker Terra Missildine, author of the soon-to-be-released e-book “10 Secrets to a Life of Fearless Freedom.”

This is a free event but pre-registration is required as space is limited. Tickets for the event can be acquired online at womeninnbusiness.eventbrite.com or by calling Jacobs at 687-9311.

Valley investments adviser goes
to Washington

Thomas, along with Transamerica Financial CEO Seth Miller, met with members of Congress to apprise them of issues facing Independent Financial Advisory Firms and their clients.

In addition to serving as a registered investment advisor with Transamerica Financial Advisors Inc., Thomas hosts a weekly radio program, “On The Money,” which can be heard each Wednesday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m. on WHMP.
