Atkins Farms holds grand reopening

— Atkins Farms will celebrate its 50th anniversary from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with an Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce “After 5” event and grad reopening.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. with the chamber and Atkins President Pauline Lannon. Food and beverage tastings will be provided by Atkins Farms, Berkshire Brewing Co., The People’s Pint, Maple Valley Ice Cream, Pioneer Valley Popcorn, Rao’s Coffee, Ooma Tesoro’s Marinara and other local vendors. There also will be contests and specials.

The first Atkins retail store was opened in June of 1962 by Howard Atkins.

Lord Jeff gets green certification

— The Lord Jeffery Inn recently was awarded LEED Silver certification, established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute.

LEED is a program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. The Lord Jeffery Inn is one of only two hotels in Massachusetts with this certification, and one of the three members of the Historic Hotels of America Program that has achieved this level of recognition.

Owned by the Amherst Inn Co., an affiliate of Amherst College, the Lord Jeffery Inn was built in 1926. The 49-room historic inn underwent a multimillion-dollar restoration and transformation in January of 2012, including an upgrade to the building’s internal systems, as well as significant energy efficiency improvements.

New CFO at Polish National

The Polish National Credit Union named Jennifer M. Gallant of Chicopee, Chief Financial Officer of the credit union.

Gallant has 15 years of credit union experience, as CFO at Chicopee Municipal Employees Credit Union, and Comptroller at Greater Springfield Credit Union.

She holds a BBA from Westfield State University, and an MBA from the UMass Isenburg School of Management. She lives in Chicopee with her husband Steve, and three daughters.

Founded in 1921, The Polish National Credit Union is one of the largest credit unions in the Pioneer Valley. With headquarters in Chicopee, the credit union operates full-service branches in Chicopee Center, Granby, Westfield, Southampton, Hampden.
