Northampton beauty school’s ‘Deck the Dolls’ Thursday
This Thursday, the windows will come alive at the Marinello School of Beauty in downtown Northampton. Students from the school will don elaborate costumes and pose as mannequins in the school’s windows. The windows will have three themes — Candyland, Who’s Who in Whoville, and holiday colors.
The “Deck the Dolls” celebration, which is the first mannequin event Marinello has held, was organized by students, who put together costumes and will do hair and makeup.
Electra Manley, an instructor who suggested the event, said the students are thrilled to be putting on the show and are looking forward to the audience’s response.
“People love it,” said Manley, who was part of similar events at the last school where she taught. “When they’re walking by they’re not sure if the people are real or not ... it’s fun to see the crowd.” The event will be held Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 9 p.m., during Northampton’s monthly Arts Night Out. Nearly 50 students will participate, taking rotating shifts as mannequins.
Marinello, 76 Pleasant St., will be open to visitors during the show, and a volunteer from the Salvation Army will be collecting donations.
