UMass Saturday hockey game at Lowell moved up to 4 p.m. for weather reasons

FROM HOCKEY EAST: Due to forecasted inclement weather, Saturday night’s Hockey East contest between Massachusetts and No. 15 UMass Lowell has been moved to a 4 p.m. start time at the Tsongas Center. Friday night’s game, to be played at the Mullins Center, remains a 7 p.m. puck drop. 0

UMass athletic director John McCutcheon leaving for UCSB

The UMass athletic department is looking for a new leader to guide it through an important time. Multiple UMass sources have confirmed that athletic director John McCutcheon has been hired to fill the same post at University of California-Santa Barbara. An official announcement is expected later this afternoon. UMass is set to begin a search for his replacement immediately. An interim athletic director will be announced shortly as well. UMass TE Jean Sifrin will forgo senior season to enter NFL draft

AMHERST – Jean Sifrin’s long-expected departure to the NFL became official Tuesday as UMass announced that its junior tight end was officially forgoing his final year of eligibility to make himself draft eligible. The 6-foot-7, 250 pound Miami native had a break out year for the Minutemen with 41 catches for 637 yards and six touchdowns. UMass gets LB recruit Tom Rodrick from Leicester

Tom Rodrick, the linebacker from Leicester, who enrolled and then withdrew from UConn last year, said that he's joining UMass football team via Twitter (@DoctorTom315). “AWESOME NEWS-Paperwork hasn’t been done yet but for those asking I am expecting to be playing for UMass next year." It's unclear whether Rodrick, who didn't see action with the Huskies will have to sit out. He's hoping to be enrolled in Amherst for the spring semester so he can participate in spring practice. AMHERST — With the tasks of finding a new conference for the football program, and maybe all sports, the UMass athletic department is in the midst of a time period that will likely affect it for years and maybe even decades to come. UMass-Northeastern game time could be moved up

Citing concerns for Northeastern's travel in an expected snowstorm, UMass associate athletic director Tim Kenney said UMass and Northeastern are exploring the possibility of moving up the start time of Wednesday's game, which is currently set to tip at 7 p.m. The schools were monitoring weather forecasts and other logistical necessities. If the start time is changed, there will be an announcment Tuesday morning. According to Weather.com, heavy snow is expected Wednesday in Amherst. 0

Week Guide III - Nov. 24-Dec. 1

Tipping off  I didn't rank Florida. I had them at No. 6 last week and not at all now. Usually I take the approach that a win is a win regardless of final score or overtime, but after losing to Miami and nearly losing to Louisiana-Monroe, Florida doesn't look like a top 25 team. So I bounced them as well as a handful for other.  I think when Florida gets healthy they'll probably be back in top 10 and certainly the top 25, but until then...  I ranked 0

LuWane Pipkins is officially a future UMass Minuteman

LuWane Pipkins is finally officially a future UMass men’s basketball player.  The 5-foot-10 point guard from Chicago signed his National Letter of Intent Monday and UMass officially verified it, Wednesday.  “He’s a great addition to our team and family. He’s a guard who can push tempo and really guards the ball defensively. He can score from the point guard spot and can really shoot,” Kellogg said. “More importantly he’s a tough kid who wants to do well and wants to win. He brings good character. I’m excited. 0
