Tattoo Tuesday: Alex Kenney

Seemed appropriate for this week's Tattoo Tuesday to go with Alex Kenney, the former Penn State receiver making a trip back to play his former school Saturday. Kenney is one of the Minutemen's most inked players, with seemingly a full shirt of art work. Surprisingly he wasn't especially talkative about his tattoos. Nothing wrong with it, but I've found most people with lots of ink can't wait to talk about it: "I like all my pieces equally. I don't have stories to match. I'm just 0

UMass to play Old Dominion in football

UMass’ schedule as a likely independent in 2016 and 2017 is taking shape. The Virginia Pilot reported that the Minuteman will face Old Dominion in each of those two seasons. ODU, like UMass was formerly a member of the Colonial Athletic Association before upgrading to the Bowl Subdivision where it plays in Conference USA. The Minutemen will play at ODU on Oct. 1, 2016. It’s the fifth game scheduled for that season along with Florida (Sept. 3 at Gainesville), UConn (Sept. 10 at Gillette), Boston 0

MAC Picks Week 3

MAC Games Friday Baylor over Buffalo - This will be a bulldozing. Cincinnati over Toledo - I would have gone the other way before Rockets lost their QB Saturday Vanderbilt over UMass - I think UMass could win, but I'm not taking the Minutemen until they prove it. Ball State over Indiana State Indiana over Bowling Green Central Michigan over Syracuse - Why not? Beat Purdue already and Cuse narrowly beat Villanova. Old Dominion over EMU Ohio State over Kent State Michigan over Miami Marshall 0

Tattoo Tuesday: Josh Bruns

Every Tuesday on this blog this season, I plan on showing a tattoo from one UMass athlete and asking them to tell the story behind it. Junior OL Josh Bruns chose to tie love of his family and his nostalgic love of superheroes into his body ink: The words below are his: (Top is Firestorm for him, Green Lantern for his father, Superman for his step father) "It's a tribute to me and my family. It was the nostalgia factor with Superheroes and everything. Each 0

How much is it worth to UMass to have a top 10 play on SportsCenter?

Jean Sifrin’s one-handed catch earned the UMass junior tight end a spot on SportsCenter’s top 10 plays. Between football and men’s basketball, it was the school’s 16th appearance on ESPN’s top 10 in the last four years. According to UMass spokesman John Sinnett, the athletic department figured out that each appearance was worth about $180,000 of free advertising, with the all 16 worth a combined value of $2.88 million. Each of the top 10 plays averages 15 seconds of screen time. Buying a 15 second 0

The Atlantic 10 announced Thursday that its men's basketball tournament will be held in Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh in 2017 and at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. in 2018. The league needed temporary homes for those year because the Barclays Center in Brookyln, N.Y. is hosting the ACC Tournament during those two seasons. UMass men's basketball freshmen are all enrolled

The UMass men's basketball team's three incoming true freshman are all enrolled in classes and will be freshman in the fall according to coach Derek Kellogg. While C.J. Anderson is already cleared and eligible, both big men, Rashaan Holloway and Malik Hines, are both waiting for the NCAA Clearinghouse to determine their status one way or the other. Even if they're ineligible, both players will remain on campus as nonqualifiers and begin playing next year. UMass will need at least one player on its roster 0
