Report: Dismissed Penn State football player to join UMass

Daiquan Kelly, who was dismissed from the Penn State football team on Saturday, will enroll at UMass, according to NJ.com. Penn State didn’t release the reason for his dismissal, simply that he had “violated team rules,” the standard catch-all phrase often used by athletic departments for discipline. Despite never practicing at Penn State, Kelly will sit out this year under NCAA transfer rules. He’ll have four years of eligibility at UMass beginning in 2016. Wil Valdez, Kelly’s high school coach at Union City (New Jersey), 0

Schedule could go a long way to determine who wins the MAC

Scheduling isn’t fair. In most sports, teams competing for the same championships aren’t playing the same teams to get there. It’s one of the trade-offs for bigger leagues, TV deals, unbalanced divisions etc. So regular-season championships, conference tournament etc. aren’t necessarily coming down to the most talented team. With that out of the way, who wins the MAC might have as much to do with who they play, or more accurately, who they don’t play, as anything else as the contenders on each side have 0

UMass swimming coach Bob Newcomb set for his annual ride PMC ride to fight cancer

I’ve written about Bob Newcomb’s PMC ride on a couple of occasions in the past. So this year to vary it up, I asked the UMass women’s swimming and diving coach to write about it in his own words. He’s got a future in writing if this coaching thing doesn’t stick: “I started my first PMC for two reasons. I had just turned 50 and was looking for something I could do to contribute to make this a better place. Secondly, my father had passed 0
