Malik Hines is not practicing with the UMass men's basketball team today. The NCAA only allows players to practice a certain number of times while their case is being reviewed and Hines has reached his number. It's worth noting that the NCAA freshman eligibility rules have changed some since last year and UMass can't comment on specifics related to their players because of privacy rules. So my understanding on Hines is that he could still be eligible. He could be ineligible to play, but would
MAC Games Saturday UMass over EMU - I can't believe UMass is such a big Vegas favorite given EMU's breakout last week, but I think the Minutemen win at home. This could be the week Alabama over A&M Oklahoma over Kansas State TCU over Oklahoma
Somebody thinks the UMass men's basketball team has a chance to be pretty good. The Minutemen got four points in the USA Today poll that came out Thursday. A first place vote is worth 25 points and a 25th place vote is worth one point. The coaches poll doesn't release individual coach's polls. UMass' four points could have been one No. 22 vote, four No. 25 votes or some combinations of votes at 23, 24 or 25. VCU is the only Atlantic 10 team ranked,
In an ESPN article UMass senior center Cady Lalanne criticized former teammate Chaz Williams' leadership a year ago: “We did what we did last season without great leadership,” Lalanne admitted. “Some days Chaz was a leader, but the inconsistency hurt us in league play." Williams is currently playing professionally in Turkey. Kellogg didn't criticize Lalanne's comments, but said Williams wasn't to blame. “We didn’t play as well down the stretch. You could look at anybody. It’s everybody. As much as it was Chaz’s team, it

UMass football coach Mark Whipple has taken a fair amount of criticism for the way last week's 42-41 loss to Miami finished. To refresh, the Minutemen had just moved the ball to the Miami 6 yard line with no time outs left. The clock was stopped for the first down with three seconds left, which is the minimum to spike the ball before the next play. If UMass spiked it, it could then have either run a play for a winning touchdown or try to

UMass fullback Rodney Mills got his daughter's name, birthday and footprint tattooed on his right arm: "This is my daughter's name, her birthday and her feet. She just turned two in August." "She really keeps me going. I want the best for her. Coming out here every day and putting in work can help possibly put me in position to give her everything she wants."
After Trey Dudley-Giles left the field on crutches Saturday after UMass' loss to Bowling Green, UMass coaches had good reason to be concerned. The versatile junior defensive back is one of, if not the best player on the Minutemen and an incredibly valuable piece of the defense backfield, which is thin to begin with. Losing him would have been potentially catastrophic. But according to Whipple on Monday's MAC conference call, Dudley-Giles practiced Sunday night and is expected to play Saturday vs. Miami at 2:30 p.m.
